The Powerscourt Estate, in County Wicklow, is just half an hour from Dublin and has for many years been well known in Ireland and around the world for its majestic grandeur. Set on 1,000-acre grounds near the picturesque village of Enniskerry, the estate now provides the classic setting for two superb championship golf courses.
The original East Course was designed by Walker Cup Captain Peter McEvoy in 1996, while the newer West Course was designed by David McLay Kidd, who also designed the new course at St Andrews.
Individual in character, both courses present a challenging test of golf while also providing stunning views of the magnificent Powerscourt Estate. Built and maintained to the most exacting standards, both layouts were created with major championships in mind.
The East Course has already hosted the Smurfit PGA championship in 1998 and the AIB Seniors championship, while the West course is expected to host numerous major events as it matures.
The complex also features the Powerscourt Golf Academy, a state of the art practice and tuition facility for golfers of all skill levels.
Over the next year or so, this special part of Wicklow will witness the creation of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on the Powerscourt Estate. In addition to the 203 suites and four restaurants, this new luxury hotel will contain a conference/ballroom facility for up to 1,000 people, meaning that functions of practically any size can be catered for. The Ritz-Carlton will also contain one of the largest spas in Europe, called Espa.
