The Ryder Cup Venue at The K Club, Co Kildare was the setting for a unique event in April which was hosted by East Coast & Midlands Tourism, in conjunction with Failte Ireland and Tourism Ireland – The Ryder Cup Countdown Media Challenge
Over 30 golf journalists and media representatives from the US and Europe travelled to Ireland’s Ryder Cup Region during the week commencing 10 th April to participate in a fun (but competitive!) golf challenge event over the same course where their golf professional counterparts will battle it out for golf’s greatest team prize – The Ryder Cup in September.
USA Take Honours this time around!
In a “hard fought” contest, the USA team defeated their European Counterparts by 51/2 to 11/2 to take the honours in this prelude to the main event in September. The journalists were accompanied on their round by representatives from many of the region’s clubs which greatly added to the enjoyment of all. After sampling some traditional hospitality in the majestic setting of Ireland ’s Ryder Cup venue, the group returned to report back on preparations for September as well as the many golfing delights to be found in Ireland ’s Ryder Cup Region.
Visits to other courses in Ireland’s Ryder Cup Region
While in Ireland , many of the visiting journalists took the time to visit a number of the many wonderful golf courses to be found in Ireland ’s East Coast & Midlands. In fact, between them, they played over 20 courses all around the region - from the links of Baltray, Seapoint and The European Club to the Irish Open venues of Carton House and Druid’s Glen as well as such courses as The Heritage, Glasson, Tulfarris, Headfort, Woodenbridge and Mount Temple .
We look forward to reading about experiences of our guests in some of the worlds top golfing publications and to them back to the region as the preparations and excitement builds for the big event in September!
